Matthew 24:42, watching and knowing + Various topics

I (Robert) challenge Phil’s allegiance to Family Radio’s message based primarily on Matthew 24:42, 44.  He addresses this passage and also sends a lot of counter assertions, and is especially dogmatic in support of the fullest Calvinistic predestination from start to finish in these debates.

4.20.2011 – 4.22.2011
Matthew 24:42, watching and knowing + Hell + Various topics

I seek clarity on the nature of Phil’s response to Matthew 24, especially verse 42.  I also point out that Harold Camping changed his view on the nature of hell, and the change is reflected in his literature with before and after quotes.  This is to demonstrate that he can be wrong.
Phil also asserts predestination; I ask him to demonstrate its relevance, and ultimately postpone discussing the doctrine until Debate Page 5.

4.25.2011 – 4.27.2011
Matthew 24:42, watching and knowing + “Noah Knew” + Various topics

We discuss Matthew 24 until exhaustions and then move on to the Family Radio business card entitled Noah Knew, which seeks to imply that we can too.  We also briefly answer each other’s question, “What if you’re wrong?”

4.27.2011 – 4.29.2011
Three Judgment Day tracts + Sunday the Sabbath booklet

I answer three Family Radio tracts about knowing when Judgment Day is coming, as well as their booklet on the Sunday Sabbath doctrine based on Matthew 28:1.  Phil responds and even says, “I would eat my hat if you could find one verse wrong in this biblical calendar…”

4.30.2011 – 5.03.2011
God’s Will / Man’s Will – free will, predestination, Bible verses

I answer a prior challenge from Phil about John 1:13.  He adds John 15:16 and 6:37-40 to the mix, and reasserts Romans 3:10-11.  We discuss the meaning of “free will” and the charge of “robbing God” of sovereignty.  We also discuss how even a perceived free will to receive Christ is not allowed in his beliefs.  I cite many passages against this, as well as his claim of Limited Atonement.  Finally he cites 1 Thessalonians 1:3; Ephesians 2:8; and Galatians 2:16 to further his rejection of “man’s faith” prior to salvation.
5.08.2011 – 5.10.2011
God’s Will / Man’s Will – free will, predestination, Bible verses

Continuing from Debate Page 5, I address Romans 3:10-11; 9:19; all of Romans 9-11; 1 Thessalonians 1:3; Ephesians 2:8; Galatians 2:16; John 17:9; John 3:16, continued; and other verses he adduced.  Then I request a direct answer to the verses I already asked about in the previous messages.  He responds to most of these.  Sensing that he wishes to wrap up the debate altogether, I briefly replied to his replies to my verses, as well as his lack of replies.

Phil - One Year Later
5.22.2012

After a year's silence, I wrote Phil a short message wishing him well.  He responded with a lengthy message, sharing a great deal about his life over the last year.  He sincerely regrets much of what he did in spreading Family Radio's prediction, and describes the great turmoil that has existed within their fellowship since then.  He still holds to some of their various beliefs, but for the most part is a very different person now.  He's even going to a church again.
